"Boom, Bust and the Aftermath of Bankruptcy" 18th Annual HACC & NACC Conference

Annual Joint Chambers of Commerce event looks at today and beyond

Examining strategies for survival is the focus of the 18th Annual Hellenic-American and Norwegian-American Chambers of Commerce Conference, often called the New York Shipping Conference. Entitled “Boom, Bust, the Aftermath of Bankruptcy and the Future”, the conference will present macro shipping and economic indicators, an overview of Chapters 7, 11 and 15, the many perspectives of restructuring, who are today’s capital providers, new frontiers and opportunities for ship design, and shipowners’ points of view. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 7th at the Waldorf-Astoria starting at 0815 with conference registration and coffee.

The Society of Maritime Arbitrators, Inc. (SMA) is pleased to announce a two day course:
MARITIME ARBITRATION IN NEW YORK

Dates: February 23 and 24, 2012

(in the historic South Street Seaport District in Downtown Manhattan)

THE COURSE: MARITIME ARBITRATION IN NEW YORK UNDER SMA RULES

The SMA will again offer its popular, comprehensive two–day seminar on “Maritime Arbitration in
New York under SMA Rules”, for the 8th consecutive year, on February 23 and 24, 2012 at the Best Western Seaport Hotel, 33 Peck Slip, New York, NY 10038 (in the historic South Street Seaport District in Downtown Manhattan).

This course is offered to help further and promote the fair, just, ethical and cost effective resolution of
charter-party and other maritime contract disputes by arbitration in New York. Jeffrey Weiss, Esq., Professor of Maritime Law at New York Maritime College, with over 25 years of college and graduate-level teaching experience, will again be the lead instructor.

This course will be especially valuable to professionals in the shipping business who are users of the
maritime arbitration process. Attendees from shipowners, chartered vessel operators, maritime claims adjustors, insurers, traders and export/import companies should find the course an efficient way to gain an understanding of the current practices in New York maritime arbitration proceedings.

The course will also be uniquely beneficial to newly admitted maritime attorneys or lawyers with less
than two years practice experience or those seeking a more comprehensive understanding of the process.
